Internal knowledge assistants

Every organisation has three or four people who are asked everything, because they are the only ones who know where things are written down.

What the build involves

interface person model

An internal assistant answers from your wiki, policies, handbooks and past projects, respecting the permissions each person already has. It cites its sources so people can verify rather than trust.

The unglamorous benefit shows up quickly: the assistant surfaces which documents are contradictory, undated or missing. Several clients have said the content audit was worth more than the assistant.

  • Retrieval across wiki, drive, policies and ticket history
  • Permissions enforced at retrieval, not in the prompt
  • Citations to the exact source passage
  • Slack or Teams access where your team already works
  • Gap reporting on questions it could not answer
  • Automatic re-indexing as documents change

Frequently asked questions

How do we stop people seeing documents they should not?

Access filtering happens at query time, before retrieval, using your existing groups. The assistant physically cannot retrieve what the asker cannot open.

Our documentation is a mess. Is this premature?

Not necessarily — the assistant is a fast way to find out exactly how messy, because every unanswerable question is a documented gap. Start with your best-maintained corpus and expand.

Where does it live?

Usually inside Slack or Teams, because a tool people must remember to visit gets forgotten. A web interface is included for longer research questions.
