Solutions

Five problems we are asked to solve most often, with what the build actually involves and what changes afterwards.

Why start from the problem

interface person model

Choosing a technology first is how projects end up with an agent where a form would have done. Starting from the problem — who has it, how often, what it costs today — keeps the solution proportionate.

Each page below describes the shape of the work, a realistic timeline, and how you would know it worked.

  • Defined by outcome, not by technology
  • Realistic timelines from delivered projects
  • Measurement agreed before the build
  • Scoped so a first version ships in weeks

Why these five

They are the requests that arrive most often, and they share a shape: a repetitive task with a clear definition of done, enough existing material for a system to ground its answers in, and a human who can check the work where it matters.

That shape is what makes a problem suitable, far more than the industry it sits in. A support queue and an invoice pile fail in the same way and are fixed with the same ingredients.

What does not fit

Problems where nobody can say what a correct answer looks like. Problems where the underlying data is missing or contradictory, in which case the first project is a data one. And problems where the cost of a rare wrong answer is severe and no human review is acceptable — the honest advice there is usually not to automate the decision at all.

I will say so in the first week rather than the fourth month. Stopping early costs you a discovery fee; stopping late costs a quarter of engineering time.

Frequently asked questions

Can these be combined?

Frequently. A support assistant and an internal knowledge assistant often share the same retrieval layer, so building both costs far less than twice one.

Tell us what you are building.

Send a short description of the problem and we will reply within one business day with an honest view of scope, cost and whether we are the right person for it.
